Patrick Jennings - Glycobiology and Disease

Current Area of Interest:

I joined NIBRT as a research assistant in August 2010. My main focus will be the detailed N-linked glycan analysis of biotherapeutics and glycoproteins for biotech companies, regulatory bodies and academic institutes. I will also be involved the set up and operation of the new NIBRT building- writing standard operations procedures, health and safety, training etc.

Background:

I graduated from Dublin City University in 2007 with a BSc in Biotechnology. I then went on to work as a research assistant in the International Centre for Neurotherapeutics in DCU. During my time there, I was involved in two streams of research:

  • Screening of various venoms (snake, scorpion, spider etc), marine extracts and chemical libraries on Kv1 (voltage-gated potassium channel family 1) channels expressed in HEK 293 in an effort to discover specific blockers and develop new therapies for Kv1 related disorders.

  • Evaluating the efficacy and longevity of recombinantly produced chimeric Botulinum neurotoxins.
