Barbara Adamczyk - Research Assistant

Current Area of Interest

I graduated with a degree in Biotechnology from the department of Life Sciences at Poznan University in 2009. I completed a MSc. thesis in the Laboratory of Developmental Genetics at the Institute of Human Genetics, the aim of the study was to screen for mutations in a highly conserved VASA gene among infertile men to evaluate significance of VASA alterations for male infertility. During my studies I spent half a year on Socrates fellowship in Spain collaborating with Center for the conservation and breeding of the agrodiversity in Valencia and developing my interests of molecular biology. Participation in programme for students Work and Travel in USA during summer time 2006 and 2007 allowed me to gain experience in industrial quality assurance.

At present I’m working as a research assistant at NIBRT. My interests concentrate on structural determination and quantification of serum N-link glycans. I’m currently working on investigation of various glycosylation changes to link glycan distributions to environmental, heritable and disease factors in serum samples. Overall my current research is glycan analysis by high-throughput HPLC and the development of technologies for glycan analysis in conjunction with the Marie Curie EuroGlycoArrays project. EuroGlycoArrays is an initial training network under FP7 programme which brings together interdisciplinary team of scientists, main aim of the project is development and application of Carbohydrate Array Technologies to systematically explore the functional role of glycans in healthy and diseased states.
